The 3Shape Dental System™ CAD software enables you to design all types of restorations digitally and easily combine them as desired. All 3D models can be manufactured regardless of the CAM equipment.

Virtual articulator
Design better crowns and save time with manual trimming. With the Virtual Articulator, the dental technician can perform all the classical jaw movements (protrusion, retrusion, laterotrusion, mediotrusion and immediate side shift) virtually, enabling complete articulation in a single purely digital workflow.
Smile Composer™
Design high-end anatomical crowns and bridges. The Smile Composer makes it easy for you to achieve high-end aesthetic results. You can work with "Full Smiles", i.e. the relationship between the teeth is retained and can be mirrored 1:1. Improved free-form tools also guarantee a fast design process.
Splint Designer™
Extend the digital range. You can use Splint Designer™ to manufacture splints, bite guards, surgical masks and other orthodontic appliances. The modelled splints can be manufactured with milling machines and also with 3D printers.

AbutmentDesigner™
AbutmentDesigner™ is an add-on module for the 3shape DentalDesigner™ software. It allows individual one and two-piece abutments to be produced.
AbutmentDesigner uses its own algorithms to detect the implant position and alignment. It guarantees the maximum precision that is essential for producing implant bridges, for example.
Benefits:
- Many options: You can design custom abutments, screw-retained crowns and anatomical abutments with this special software.
- Flexible combinations: Combining abutments with other restorations using file splitting, e.g. with crowns and copings, is easy with top precision and parallelism.
- For complex implant work: The software automatically aligns several abutments in a common insertion direction, which you can set up specifically for the patient.
- Simple gingival adaptation: The emergence profile can be customized for the patient’s gum

Denture Design™
The third-generation 3shape software makes it possible. Use Denture Design™ to design dentures in fast and accurate workflows and take advantage of innovative tools for adjusting denture occlusion and functions.
Denture DesignTM has been developed to improve the clinical performance and to reduce the time and number of appointments required for working on the patient during denture treatment.

- Improved scanning process: Scanning plaster models (maxilla, mandible, bite rim) or impressions (Centric Tray, standard impression tray) is now even easier and more convenient.
- Automatic gingival adaptation: Using Denture DesignTM you only need to define the gingival margin and then allow the program to create the shaped gingiva automatically.

- 3-in-1 impression bite plate: The “bite plate” is a digitally designed bite register that combines the custom impression tray, bite rim and intraoral register impression. It is an ideal instrument for dentists to optimise the occlusion and function of the denture and to reduce the treatment time.
Model Builder™
The Model Builder™ add-on module enables dental technicians to virtually construct working models. Laboratory models are very simple to produce based on these models.
The Model Builder™ add-on module makes it easy for you to manufacture laboratory models, including implant models, for multiple indications directly from digital impressions and scans of physical impressions.
Benefits:
- One template for all: Only one investment in a single model production system is required to be able to manufacture models by 3D printing or milling machine.
- Wide range of functions: Create removable neighbouring teeth and implant models with gingival masks. Select and position the articulator interface without difficulty and trim the model automatically to fit the crown and abutment.
- Reduce workflows and throughput times: Scans are cleaned, optimised and prepared for direct usage in the CAD construction. The special software automatically inserts precise friction bars that hold the copings securely in the shaft during articulation and handling.
- Import scans of TRIOS® and third parties: Select single-stump models, secondary bases and uncut models for each individual case.
- Add ID tags: You can virtually engrave case data, such as the order number or the name of the patient, on the model.
- Everything backed up: Machine-specific parameters are saved in editable and reusable profiles.
Implant Bars & Bridges™
Precision by mouse-click. Implant bars and bridges for removable and fixed dentures often form complicated geometrical patterns and demand maximum precision. The Implant Bars & BridgesTM add-on module simplifies the virtual design process.
Implant Bars & Bridges™ supports standard and free-form bars and enables virtual adding of attachments, Locator® and retention drilling for simple and efficient bar design. Implant bridges can be designed directly with gingiva.

Removable Partial Design
Removable Partial Design is a special software for virtual creation of removable dentures. The Dental SystemTM partial denture add-on covers all phases of design of rigid and flexible components of a partial denture.
Design clasps and aesthetic, functional occlusal onlays, test and block undercuts and display them and enjoy even more freedom for modelling with the new tool for defining the areas for stippled wax. The Removable Partial Design™ partial denture software is currently only available as software; designs cannot currently be manufactured in the cara production centre.
Benefits:
- Best-possible fit: The software is ideal for precise identification of the ideal position for undercuts and planning clasps and automatic virtual wax blocking for optimal fit and reliable retention.
- Compatible system: The retention grid is selected from a list of predefined grid patterns and the main connection area is marked with a quick-modulation tool. The finishing lines and transitions to the main connectors and the retentions are automatically created.
- Optimal clasp and connector design: The virtual clasp is positioned in the model with predefined or customised clasps.
- Versatile tools: Insert large and small connectors and retention grids, draw the optimal areas directly on the model and add flexible retainer bars and moulds.
Impression Scanning
Optimise processes and reduce costs. Directly scanning silicone and alginate impressions with the Impression Scanning add-on module represents an excellent opportunity for both the dental laboratory and the dental practice to optimise their working processes and to save costs.
The high-resolution scanner with optimised angles combined with adaptive scan technology patented by 3shape even allows deeper anterior preparations to be scanned. Impression scans, just like plaster model scans, can be imported directly for further revision by the system.

Break-even point
CAD Points or a licence?
Your laboratory can use cara CAD Points to expand its production of abutments, implant bars & bridges and partial dentures slowly and surely. If your monthly production increases, at some point the break-even point will be reached at which purchase of a licence for the corresponding add-on software modules will be more cost-effective.
